Walking/Birdwatching

Described as a haven for walkers and bird watchers alike, peace and tranquility is really just around the corner. Origo Mare lies some three miles from the start of 'The Volcano Walk' which begins in Lajares and finishes in Corralejo. Described in some of the guide books as the best walk on the Island, it follows a natural ridge with diversions up to look into the crater of an extinct volcano.

For those interested in Birdwatching, Fuerteventura has a lot to offer as it's natural open spaces make it quite easy to observe species that are difficult to spot in other surroundings, including the other islands of the archipelago.

Malcolm and Julie were fortunate enough to spot a 'Guirre Majorero' whilst visiting the island in late November, 2007. This is a very rare bird and in danger of becoming extinct. With a  population thought to be about 150, the  birds are only found around Fuerteventura. The bird was on the north shore, less then ten minutes walk from the villa and was seen by Julie on two consecutive days.
