Surfing / Body boarding

With good reason, the surfers 'bible', 'The Stormrider Guide to Europe', describes The Canary Islands as 'The Hawaii of the Atlantic'. Open ocean swells from three directions unload on volcanic reef and points with power comparable to just about anywhere in the world. Add to this, year around warm, clean water, with just the need for a shortie and rashie most of the time and you start to understand why this is such a popular, year around destination.

Situated on the North Shore,  Villa Bocaina overlooks some of the best, if not the very best of these reef breaks. Known to the locals as Derecha (The Right), or in Britain as 'The Bubble', this is a consistent right of exceptional quality and can be seen working from the upstairs roof terrace! A short walk will bring you to this and several other exceptional reef breaks, Hierro, Izquierda, and Majanicho.

Two exceptional beach breaks are a short drive away, and a day surfing Lobos, a short boat trip from Coralejo, is a must. This peeling, tubey right can offer rides of over 400m when conditions are right!

Windsurfing and Kiteboarding.

With good reason, the Windsurfing World Championships are held on Sotovento Beach in July. Majanicho is a popular spot, although for those wanting to surf off beach breaks, El Cotillo on the West and Flag Beach on the East, offer something for everyone.

Diving, Snorkeling and Fishing.

The warm, clear waters of The Atlantic are the perfect place to enjoy these sports. A Padi dive school operates out of Coralejo, as do many sea fishing boats. A popular choice with young and old is a 'snorkling safari' to Lobos. Described as 'Wild, wet and windy, and operating from an inflatable craft, it is not to be missed. Julie and Becky spent a week over the New Year snorkeling in Majanicho harbour and can vouch for it's warm water and abundant fish life. Basic fishing and snorkeling gear are included in the rent of the villa. If you are looking for Open Water Diving or Big Game Fishing, click on the link at the top of the page.

Quad Bike Safaris.

The island is a great place to explore 'off the beaten track' and  can be enjoyed by quad bike, mountain bike or 4x4 safari.

Mountain Biking.

Mountain bike hire is inexpensive and guided tours are very popular. Fuerteventura is host to several prestigious mountain bike events, one of which goes along 'the north track', skirting the Origo Mare development.

Walking.

The villa gives immediate access to many fine walks, and 'The Volcano or Crater' walk, (considered by many as the most impressive walk in Fuerteventura), between Lajares and Coralejo, is right on the doorstep. For more details of the walk click on the link below. Add to that, miles of wild and unspoiled coastline and you can see that it's a walker's dream destination. Also very popular with naturists with the  Dunes of Coralejo or the Costa Calma coastline being a popular choice.

Tennis and Paddle Courts

Both paddle and tennis courts are installed at Origo Mare and are free to use by the residents. paddle courts have an 'enclosed end' and could be described as a cross between squash and tennis. This relatively new sport has become one of the most popular racquet games in Spain and the craze is spreading across Europe. A paddle (pádel’ in Spanish) court is smaller than a tennis court, with simpler line markings. It has high surrounding walls of glass and/or solid construction. It has been described as a squash court in the sun and is the perfect sport for Fuerteventura's fantastic climate. The scoring is similar to tennis and it can also be played in either singles or doubles. A game is the best of three sets. Where it differs most from conventional tennis is in the use of what resembles a giant table tennis bat, instead of a strung racquet, and the service is under rather than overhand.
